Hello, I have just installed a Netgear 10/100 network card in my pc (Celeron464,BE6-2). It works great and connects to my other machine no problem but it has doubled the once quick boot time of that machine. I am totally new at networking, is this a normal trait of network cards or is it my settings or cheapo card causing the problem? The other PC is a PPro200 and Intel providence motherboard with onboard NIC. I have always wondered why that pc has always taken a long to to boot as well since I built it. Anything I can do to speed things up? Otherwise it works perfect. Thanks.

NIC card my be looking for a DHCP server to give it an IP address. If you have dialup or dsl basic, you get your internet IP address assigned when you log in. If you do not use the internet, you could go to control panel and network. Choose tcp/ip and then properties. On the ip address tab type in an ip address (almost anything really try 111.111.111.111) and subnet of 255.255.255.0. However if you do use the internet, this might interfere with connectivity to your local ISP. Check with them for any other suggestions.
