Hi there,
I have a T1 connection from my condo here but seem to have some discrepancies in my connection. The weirdest thing is that sometimes all my online applications will work except for my browser(s). This will happen for no apparent reason and then will correct itself eventually. Is this a problem on my ISP's side or can I do something to double check that everything is in order?

LoL, Your applications I suppose run locally.. so I suppose that works.. and your browser.. is your gateway to the internet.. lets see if T1 interface is down.. then internet is down.. or telephone companies circuits are out.

What do you mean by "applications run locally"? Let me put it this way, I can play Quake, use my ICQ, and retrieve email but I can't surf the web.

Could be a name resolution problem. Can you ping your DNS numbers when you are having problems with browsing the net? Can you ping anything when you are having problems? Next time you have problems, try pinging yahoo or sysopt using their FQDN's. ex. ping www.sysopt.com (http://www.sysopt.com) If you time out, try pinging something with the actual IP. If you can do that you are having DNS issues.

you also may want to check your connection settings in your browser (if IE then go view, internet options, connection) and make sure the settings are correct there. if you don't know what they should be you may want to try the autoconfigure option or call tech support.

If you are using Netscape Communicator, check proxy settings. Go to edit, preferences, then open up advanced and click on proxies. "direct connection to the internet" should be your choice.
