Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : modem initialization
This is an intermittent problem for the last few years. When starting the DUN for my ISP, I get an error message that the modem cannot be initialized or that there is a problem with the modem. A reboot takes care of this. (It can be a real pain). It is a supraexpress 56i Is there any way to reset the modem without a system reboot?

Yea.. if this is an external modem... turn it off and turn it back on.. if this is a windows NT.. system.. stop and restart the modem service.

The little i after the 56 indicates it's an internal modem. I have the same one but don't have that problem often.
Thanks for the info. It is an internal modem and I was running '98 SE. I say was as I have bigger fish to fry now. My HD just failed.
