SysOpt is a great place and I come here almost daily. One thing I'd like to comment on is that in the User Reviews section, there is no category for Processors!!! Seeming how the processor is the single most-important component of a computer it is only logical to have a Processor section in the User Reviews section. Also, seeing as how obvious a Processor category would be, I find it hard to believe that someone overlooked adding that category, so I assume their is a reason why there is no Processor category and if there is a reason, then I am curious as to what that reason is. If there is no reason that it hasn't been added, then add a Processors category to the User Reviews section pronto!
Additionaly, once in a while, SysOpt personel should check the User Reviews database once in a while, as I have seen numerous reviews containing vulgar language.
Check out User Reviews, Graphics Cards, and look for the f-word +ing Riva TNT

I was just about to post same topic after getting latest newsletter and checking out reviews. I have just bought a new motherboard and processor based on user comments in the forums and reviews at websites and was surprised to find no processors in Sysopt review section as it is one of the most important pieces of the computer puzzle.
As for that @%__!!!*>! post Im sure that will be taken care of soon enough.

The reason most people would look for processor reviews is to determine stability, quality, compatability and most of all overclockability. If you could set up the reviews with those parameters then many people could learn real user results from them. I consider myself lucky as I believe I asked the right questions, received some valuable advice and read other topical posts in the forums but others may not be so lucky.
Also you do quite often get results on chips in the forums but you have to go through a lot of flotsam to find what you need- processor specific reviews could reduce/eliminate that for many.
sorry fingers sore now- cant write any mo....
Thanks to Daveleau and Oblivion for steering me away from .25 Celeron and back on track to cel2 as well as their advice on BF6 mobo

Yes, of course. That was the point of our overclocking survey. But, there is no way to add that kind of functionality to the user reviews setup. It needs to be a whole separate system. Our resources are otherwise allocated at present, but when possible, we'll be developing other user contributed resources, including updated CPU/overclocking related surveys, benchmark score surveys, etc.

Well, as I am on a quest for a new processor and mobo right now, I can say that I just can't make up my mind. I am looking at both the Pentium III 550e and 600e in both Slot 1 and FC-PGA, I know that if ther was some sort of place here that had user reviews of processors, I would visit it and I would let the reviews there effect my decision. I mean, isn't that what reviews are for?
I think (personally) that it would be a nice addition.
By the way, it's nice to know that a guy like Scott is keeping a watchful eye on what the public wants here at SysOpt.
Thanks, Marcus
Hey Scott, are you gonna change that wacky review? (it was F-word+ing class-cl+hole Riva TNT2)

Thanks for the reply Scott, looking at the survey reponse it could keep a person busy, little outdated - needs to be more defined to processor speeds but good info for people. Am I blind or is it being kept in the dark till later- as the survey could/should be permanently posted in the overclocking forum. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/ocsurv.cgi
keep up the good work!

The reason why there is no category for processors is because there are so few manufacturers and a low variety of products. AMD, Intel, VIA/Cyrix, and that's about it.
So, I'm not sure what good it would do to have someone say "yeah I like the Athlon". And it really wouldn't make sense to have different speed processors listed - tell me the difference from a user's perspective between the Athlon 700 and 800 besides 100MHz?
If you look at other products, take video cards for example, you have a much wider variety of manufacturers and product combos. Or motherboards particularly - dozens of manufacturers, each with dozens of totally unique products. But for processors, with three manufacturers making up a grand total of about 10 mildly unique products, it just doesn't make sense.

If you need advice on what processor to choose, there are lots of reviews out there. We have some at: http://www.sysopt.com/reviews.html
But there are many other hardware sites that review CPU's. I just don't think that user reviews are the right place for processor reviews, at least not in the format of the other reviews.
cyclone2: yeah, the survey is outdated and needs to be redesigned. Like I mentioned, our resources are otherwise allocated at the moment (redesigning ResellerRatings for one thing) but when we have a chance we'll see what we can do about adding user contributed features/functionality.
