Install it!

Its free, it's easy to use and does not interfere with my ICQ. (I've used both 99a & now 2000)

If you don't like it you can disable it or even remove it at no cost.

I also use 56k dial-up.

EDIT - Do a little test if your not sure you need it. Go to Sheilds-up at Steve Gibson's Site (http://grc.com/) and see how vulnerable you are then install ZA and test again. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I have used it since it first hit the web. and wouldn't surf without it. for I go to a lot of places you aren't suppose to go. and I in no way trust those sites.

it's kind like leaveing you bussiness/personal bank account open to everyone out there. would you do that??

and before you configure the program. you will be suprised at the hits you will get. I don't know if they are true or not. but, I got alot of them.

and so, like stated before. try it and if you don't like it. dump it.but, I don't got out on to the highway without a seat belt. and now won't surf without a alarm. he he

The only problem I've found with ZA, is that I have to unistall the previous version before installing the update or my computer
has a fit and I have to do a Reg/restore. Other than that it works Great!!

To do ICQ file transfers ZA needs to be set on "act as server" in the config for ZA.
I have no problems with ICQ and ZA and have been using both a long time.
If you do ever have problems...shut ZA down and restart it, I've had to do that a few times for ICQ to work right.

I got a question...

well first I should say that if I had a faster connection than modem, here right now, this wouldn't b a dilemma.
But I don't. My main question, and which also would b d driving factor in installing zone alarm is:
"Can I c my friends IP address when zone alarm is installed and they send me an ICQ message?"
if not is there anyway I can do this?

****
sorry if I don't reply ASAP... will try to check the reply when I get back from my one week vacation to CUBA, starting in 8 hours!
****
will c if cuba has internet access, I fear I might have withdrawls... for a whole week

Zone Alarm allows you to configure "Trusted" IP addresses. You could configure your friends address in such a manner and share files with her/him. I understand that Zone Alarm does not interfere with ICQ once it has been configured. I don't use ICQ so I can't comment with absolute certainty.
Have fun in Cuba.

I have been using zone alarm for a while on highest setting - QIth ICQ99b I had no problems, although some stated they had. ICQ2000 has a specific update for firewall compatability, even tho I didnt experience any. Installing ICQ2000 should kill any problems you have with ICQ and ZA.

If you don't mind may I ask what you are going to Cuba for? My wife and I have disscused going there within the next few years, is it difficult to get into Cuba. I have been told by my inlaws it is very beutiful and would love to see one day. Thanks.
