I just had to reformat my hard drive today..again (advice, when a cpu doesnt want to overclock, dont try to force it /forum/smile.gif ) anyway, im using my computer to share an internet connection with my dads computer via a cable modem hub and some nics. I have the sharing set up fine and can surf witht he second computer, but I cant get either computer to see the other one on the net. Both of them are set on "client for microsoft networks". and both have print and file sharing installed and have items marked for sharing. both are in the same group (the default "workgroup." when i restart them, it keeps popping up and asking for a password for microsoft networks which I never made so I keep just bypassing it by hitting enter. what else should I check to make it work?
It all worked fine before the little "accident" with overclocking. thanks!
Hi,
First - I think you really need password + user name, second - do you have Netbeui protocol installed and third - name of your computer have to be different from workgroup. That's all what I know. I hope it will help.

Chipbgt: I had the sample problem once when running a point-to-point connection (direct cable connection). I solved it by installing the IPX/SPX protocol on both computers.
I thinki medo is right, in order to use the file and printer sharing properly you must use a log on username and a password. If you get severe problems the best solution is to delete all network protocols and settings in the device manager, then start again an let windows detect it all again.
Hi,
I can't figure out your config, but you need to login to the "windows" network using a name AND password. Otherwise windows wil not start the network and you will not see it.

So long!
You dont have to have a password. You do need to logon the network though. As long as you press enter at logon instead of cancel, this is OK. The password can be blank. I agree you should try another protocol like Netbeui in addition to TCP/IP. If you still can't see the computers in network neighborhood try pinging the computer. At DOS prompt
type 'ping localhost', type this as is without the quotes. And/Or 'ping computername' Substitute computername with that of the other computer. And/Or 'ping ipaddress' substitute ipaddress with the ip address of the other computer. If you get replies then you should see them. If you don't get replies from pinging then check your configuration again. Your problem I don't think has anything to do with your accident. If you want to automatically logon, get a program called tweakUI from MS or download.com.
