I have been trying to get a Magitronic NIC to to run properly under Windows 98. I have done numerous searches regarding this on the internet, and it appears that I am not alone with this problem. Before suggesting that I check my Network Properties configuration, please be aware that I installed, removed and reinstalled the following components; Client for Microsoft Networks, IPX/SPX-compatible protocol, Netbeui, TCP/IP (just for the heck of it) and File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks. A search on the FCC IC# uncovered that a conpany called CIS Industries actually made the NIC. I sent the E-Mail shown below on 10/5/99 and they haven't responded. The text in the E-Mail further describes the nature of the problem.
Gentlemen,
I am trying to get a Magitronic Network Adapter (P/N : I - E32 - COMBOPNP) to work under Windows 98 on a P-2 450 Mhz(Asus P2B motherboard). The machine can be seen in Network Neighborhood by a Windows 95 machine, but it cannot be accessed, (message says it does not exist) nor can it see a Netware server or other Windows machines in a peer to peer environment. I did an FCC ID # check and the ID# L4OWSR300 is registered to your company. I have attempted to run this card as detected by Windows (Realtek RTL8019 PnP Lan Adapter or Compatible) using Windows 98 default drivers. Since the card is built on the 8029 chipset, I have also downloaded and installed win98-8029(354).exe from Realtek, which they say are the latest drivers . The adapter now appears in Device Manager as a Realtek RTL8029(AS) PCI Ethernet NIC, but I am still having the same problems. My next move was to be installing the drivers for the WS-R300C/CT/CAT found in your download page, but I am having trouble unzipping the r300drv5.exe file. When it extracts I repeatedly get messages the the files already exist, do you want to overwrite (y/n)? as they are expanding. So, after that explaination I basically have two questions.
1) Are there any drivers available that will allow this card to run under Windows 98, and if so how do I get them ?.
2) Are the drivers I need located in the r300drv5.exe file, and if so how do I unzip the file and install.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Danny
So, is there any hope, or is this peice of hardware headed straight to the S#@$CAN ?
