When i use a download manager i get disconnected every 3 to 5 minutes. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
It started when I tried useing Download Accelerator so I removed it and tried Getright but it's still the same.
I'm using Win98 and 56k dial-up.
this problem does not occure when Getright is not running.
I've checked the options and they are not set to disconnect.
My modem is not set to disconnect if idle.(as if it would ever be idle. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif)
Well i'm half asleep so i'll check back in the morning and hopefully find the solution.
Thx to anyone who has some helpfull advice.

Hi Sharpy
Not sure why you're disconnecting - someone who uses a download manager will have to give you some suggestions on that.
There's more info on download managers in this thread:

Thx socalgal that thread was where i got the Download Accelerator link from but after getting disconnected i decided to remove it and go with Getright.
I run Optout after installing any internet related programs just incase.(i hate spyware)
Could Optout removing Getright stuff effect it?

Ok now it's doing even without Getright running.;(
I checked my modem log and got this:
05-03-2000 02:28:34.65 - Interpreted response: Connect
05-03-2000 02:28:34.65 - Connection established at 52000bps.
05-03-2000 02:28:34.65 - Error-control on.
05-03-2000 02:28:34.65 - Data compression on.
05-03-2000 02:32:04.02 - Remote modem hung up.
05-03-2000 02:32:04.02 - Recv: <cr><lf>NO CARRIER<cr><lf>
05-03-2000 02:32:04.02 - Interpreted response: No Carrier
05-03-2000 02:32:04.04 - Hanging up the modem.
So thinking it might be my ISP's server i tried a different number (Same ISP, different server as this has solved other problems my ISP had when it first started up.) but I'm still being disconnected.

Go into your modem settings and try turning "error control" off (uncheck the box).
98% of the time, the error control should be turned on, but I've experienced at least 2 seperate ISP's (amongst my history of well over a dozen) that required me to disable my error control.
With it on, I would get randomly disconnected 2 to 20 minutes after logging on. It's seemed to be an idiosyncracy of my modem. Most other users had no problem with error control on. But it was only at a couple particular ISPs. Plus, at those two ISP, when I disabled error control, it didn't affect conection speed or quality as it should have. So....er....I dunno....I never did solve exactly why the error control gave me a problem at only those ISPs. But anyway, it's worth a shot. I know how frustrating it is to just randomly get booted off-line.

Well the good news is it's working fine now. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/icons/icon14.gif
But the bad news is i don't know why. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/icons/icon13.gif
I hate it when that happens as the problem could raise it's ugly head again at the most inapropriate moment.(Like in the middle of a UT match!)
BTW - i tested it by resuming my UT bonus pack D/L 13Mb. So i'm locked, loaded and ready to kick Anandtech but again on Saturday.
Cya all there, and don't forget Sysopt needs YOU!
