I made a mistake of buying a used coax cable from a computer market that I found out later is an
RG-62 from the marking of the cable sheath, I did a search and found out RG-62 is for ARCnet
and/or IBM SNA. And that I should have bought an RG-58 instead for my 2 nic card 10base2. The
RG-62 is a 93 ohms and Rg-58 is a 5o ohms. I already got the correct 50 ohms terminator. Could I
continue using the RG-62 as it is working all right with my 10base2 NIC card. I have no problem
with my 2 computer connected as peer to peer. But I am worried it might damage my NIC card at a
later time. The user guide specifically says an RG-58 is needed .

Also is the green led at the NIC card used for the twisted wire only (RJ-45)? As I am using the coax
RJ-62 the green led is not lit up nor flickering it just stay off, but everything is working network wise.

If it's working now, and you're not going to get anywhere near the 185m standard for 10B2 then leave it - I wouldn't have thought you will cause any damage (I've used all sorts of strange cable in the past over short distances and few devices).

Thanks for the reply. Yes I only got a short coax cable about 3.5 meters only and its been a month now and everything is a OK. Nice hearing about what your experience was.
