No this isn't technically a networking problem but it is somehow related. Since purchasing a new (micron 400 celeron) computer, I cannot achieve a connection to my internet provider. The provider is a college where I work. I can still connect with my old computer and I am using the exact same username and password on both. We agree on the PPP server type. The administrator at the college says the log shows me trying to get in but giving the wrong password; but honestly, I am not -- at least one of my 2 million attempts had to be perfect -- after all the old computer hooks up easy as pie. Anyone encounter this kind of problem? I'll be deeply indebted if you can help. Thanks.

Well, the only brainstorm I could come up with is that it's possible you have turned ECHO ON in your term program or Dial-up Networking. If you could get the admin to tell you what that computer is getting, that would help a lot.

Joel, Thanks for your input. Last night the college computer administrator came over and we worked on this issue. It is now resolved but still something of a mystery. We stroked the Microsoft Internet Exlporer automatic connect and eventually got the college system to admit my machine. Paradoxically, when we would disconnect there were always two disconnet dialogue boxes. I suspect that this is somehow related to our problem. I'm still puzzeled -- though now releived of the problem. Again, thanks. Mitch
