I'm trying to split the line coming in so that two computers can use the one line. Is a hub the only way to do this?
Thanks

You could use coax or direct cable connect (parallel or serial). To use 10BT or 100BT without a hub you use a crossover cable. You can order one for less than $5.00 at www.buycomp.com, you still need some network cards, but for 2 computers you don't need a hub. See: Crossover cable http://www.digitalmx.com/wires/peer.html http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/hypertext/faq/usenet/LANs/cabling-faq/faq-doc-12.html Fallen Kell 02-05-1999, 12:28 PM You could also make the crossover cable yourself if you have the right tools: 1 catigory 5 cable (twisted pair) 1 catigory 5 endcap (can buy at Radio Shack or computer store in bag;s or 5 or 10) 1 pair of telicommunications krimpers But if you are going to have to buy the kripmers, its just cheaper to buy the crossover at a store.
