I am relatively new to upgrading my own computer and I was hoping someone can tell me how to figure out what type of motherboard I have and what the maximum processor capacity is.
I wrote down every number I could find on my motherboard.
Thanks

usually you can find a number on your motherboard that will tell you. It should be the biggest lettering and a combination of numbers and letters. You could also check the manual that came with your computer.

Welcome to sysopt. gtfuture
Would you be kind enough to give us as much info as you have?
Is this machine running right now?
Is it a name brand?
Is it home built?

First of all, thanks for the interest.
The machine is currently running great. It was built in May of 1999 by someone I used to work with so I don't have very much information about what was put into it (I was a lot more computer ignorant then).
Here is what I have on the motherboard:
- There is a black square attached to the motherboard. It has the following printed on it:
Intel
PCI SET
FW82371EB
L9090019
SL37M
Malay
- There is another 'chip' attached with a sticker on it that reads:
Award 1996
PCI PNP 686
16021232
- Another sections reads:
Winbond
W83977EF-AW
AM.MEGA 87-96
845A2B283650002
- Finally the motherboard itself has the following in large white letters:
P6F91 i
I am looking to upgrade my PC with a additional memor, a faster processor and a new Video card but I don't know if my motherboard can handle the processor.
Thanks again for all your help.

Have you tried identifying the board using the bios string displayed at boot-up?
I have been quite successful in the past using the search at http://www.motherboards.org
Best of luck anyway
P.S. Our thoughts are with you all in USA at this tragic time. Everyone here in England is thinking of you.

When the first screen appears after you push the start button hit the pause key!
Look for a string of numbers that looks something like this!
2A59L XXXX XXXX for an Award Bios
51-0102-XXX-XXX for an AMI bios
Copy them down on paper and post them here!

You could download Sisoft Sandra from http://www.download.com. It will help you to identify the make and model of your motherboard. :)

I can't quite tell because the picture is so small but I think this is it. If so, I am not sure that I can upgrade to a 950Mhz processor and a 64MB video card based on the technical information given.
It looks like I may have to replace the entire motherboard.
