I didn't believe my eyes when I saw the page... Will the fools in this world buy anything that another fool stuck a price tag to?
The deal surely seems like scam. I don't remember reading anything about a "raft", and the board on photos doen't look trustworthy.
Anyway, seemed like fun story.

This is unbelievable! I hardly believe I'm seeing it. Is it for real? are these people really bidding over a quarter of a million dollars for a wooden raft!? The thing looks like a fake, maybe I'm just skeptical, but good grief! Bid's at 300,500.00 with 97 bids. Unreal!

LOL the bid is up to $999,723.25 now.

It's probably some organization that wants to put it on display w/ Hitler memorabilia.

Thats it....I am biddin on it..check for pedroharp! =)
Dude...thats scary. In oder to do certain bids you have to put in a credit card....so those people are half serious about paying a mil bucks(!)

The cuban navy has had several agents caught while trying to steal that boat... It seems they want to know why, despite all appearances otherwise, it would FLOAT.
Good lord, there are some idiots out there... i wonder how long that boat would last without rotting, let alone float. It doesn't even look like a boat...

Just a ? has anyone ever seen what happens to pressboard (or whatever you call it) when it comes in contact with water? That **** thing would be all swollen up by now! Fools will buy anything! ANd any fool who would pay $1,500,101.00 deserves to get screwed! And there is still 6 days left!
**** I wish I came up with this scam! I wonder if this person will be brought up on fraud charges?

LOL chip, I think for every online auction they have to have some sort of commitment from you that you will honor your bid. There's no way they could do it w/ out it. Too many jokers (like you) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif.

Can you imagine what eBay is thinking?!? they get a 2% cut, right? so when I checked just now, it's at ~1,300,000. $13,000 at least in their pockets!!! And I'll bet it floats for the same reason trees cut down and thrown in a river float, buoyancy.
jad1097
04-30-2000, 07:57 PM
Hmm it is now @ $1,500,800.00?
Note: Bids of $15000 or more require user verification with a credit card or alternative verification prior to placing a bid.
Oh sure it will float but add some weight to it and see how unstable it would be. I would rather take an inner tube over than that thing. Just imagine that thing in 6'-8' seas! Only a fool would get on a contraption such as that to travel from Cuba to Miami.

Well yeah, I have an ebay account http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif But do you really think someone is gonna pony up 1.5 million dollars for this? I dont think so.

I'm not sure... but I'm sure someone would be just as likely to shell out $10,000,000.00 for it as they would $1.5M. I'm sure it won't last much longer than tomorrow, when the eBay staff will be back at work. I'm a bit surprised to 1) See the bidding go as high as $10M, and 2) See that there are only 4 bid retractions!

Also notice the piece of plywood on the front is the only piece that has weathered. The rest of the wood looks new to me.
And I like how they threw some straw on it.
Ok people are just playing with this guy!
$10,000,000.00!!!!!!!!!!!

but my point is, I can see someone saying "like I got 1 and a half million dollar credit on my vredit card, sure, I'll pay 30 million for the raft. lets see em try to collect it." I am tempted to do it and say "sorry,,,I changed my mind." People have done it to me on Ebay before.

Ummm did anyone else catch this?
This raft was used by Elian Gonzalez in the infamous flight from Cuba to Miami
I thought he was on the water and not in the air. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Ok, I'm game. Since I'm to lazy to click disconnect http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif, I just used dialpad.com to call the number. Your doing better than me, as all I could ever get was a busy signal.
Since I'll never get the info, I guess I won't be bidding 10,000,100. Oh well, his loss!!

This isnt the first "sick" thing on Ebay. Some kid tried to sell his virginity, some tried to sell there body parts after they die, things like that.

No, it sunk! I am tempted to register a fake name and bid 80,000,000,000 just to make sure the guy gets no money for it.

What a raft, it would have a better chance of achieving flight than floating.
RobRich
04-30-2000, 11:14 PM
No kidding, I really want to see a pic of that thing floating on water. It would probably sink straight to the bottom.
Also, look at the OSB boards. They are damged at the corners, but nowhere else. By going on what this guy says, this thing was out in the ocean. If it did float, I believe that the OSB would have suffered some serious water damage, and that the joints should not be nearly as smooth as they are.

Well, as of this afternoon (5/2), the raft is no longer available. Looks like the eBay staff finally decided that the item and seller were a fraud, and that the deal would never go through.
