I heard on the radio today (Good ol Howie), that MP3.Com is being shut down cause they store the MP3 files, but they won't be able to do much to Napster, since it is only a service. The files being on the user PCs makes a technical difference that will protect Napster.

We need a ban of any and all metallica products, we have to do this. Seems like Metallica is already taking care of that for us....

Gene if they ever bring me in as a defendent then I will have to bring my entire record, cd and tape colletion with me. Just to prove to these people I do own a legal copy of the music and I am just trying to save time by downloading a few songs.
I really does not matter because I did not use Napster those days.

BTW Napster is going to be uninstalled on this box, that is for sure.

This brings to the front the question of Napster users privacy rights. I know on Napster, you have a username, but I don't think you can access someone's real name, address, etc..

Are they going to trace IP addresses perhaps?

I would say that is exactly what they are doing. It looks to me like they are monitoring all the Napster servers and logging all the IP#'S. How do they know who is downloading what though? Maybe they set up a few computers and had a bunch of Metallica songs on them and did a trace route on everyone that download a song from them.

Whats up Pickel? Elian who?huh? I don't know who that is but he has a bunch of stuff on sale @ Ebay. He even has this pice of wood that is selling for $10,000,000!

Metallica is making 100's of millions of dollars off of the public.

I AM NOW ON BOYCOTT OF METALLICA AND ALL OF IT'S FANS!

All I can say to everyone is stop using Napster http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif They are now monitoring all the traffic that goes through Napster from what it looks like. If you do use it make sure you have a legit copy of whatever you download. Lars Kiss my *****!
Metallica's Lars Ulrich reportedly plans to deliver the 335,435 names to Napster's San Mateo, Calif., offices Wednesday.

The names were gathered by NetPD, a consulting firm hired by Metallica to monitor the site between April 28 and April 30.

But the real question is how is it illegal to download one of their songs if you have it on cd? How can they prove you committed an illegal act if you have the song on cd?

Yes they can stop Napster by making them block users that are downloading copyedited music. http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2560124,00.html

because you'll all be there:

King said the names were not being added to the lawsuit against Napster, but he did not rule out naming the users as defendants.
