I have a m571 socket 7 motherboard motherboard. I have had it for years and it has ran great and been adequate for me. One day it just went dead and I smelled burnt components. I unplugged the power for a while and turned it back on and I got an FDC Failure message. I took out the board and followed the path of from the Floppy connector to the first IC and it is the one that is damaged. It is a 20 pin surface soldered ic GD75232. I have located similar chips from a distributor. I have an url to a list of the matches. My problem is the chips for sale have little variations on the serial number. I am not sure which is the one I need or how to find out the one I do need. Here is the actual set of numbers on the chip from the motherboard 85C6FOT bellow that is GD75232 ther is a little symbol also which i believe is for texas instruments. *http://www.digikey.com/scripts/US/DKSUS.dll?KeywordSearch .
Can someone tell me how to find out the exact chip I need? Is there a document somewhere that will tell me the specs of the chip on the motherboard? What would that document be called if it exists? I appreciate any help I can get.

Luke

You might just ask around to see if anyone has a bad 571 that you could get and steal the chip from it. There are lots of these boards around.
