Hi Splitz300 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
With the 1008 (offical) BIOS the A7V (any revision) can goto up to the 1.4Ghz 200FSB CPU. Note...NOT the 266. You'll have to manually input the FSB and Freq Multiple and the VCore. You CANNOT run in Jumperless mode.
How do you do that (the highest multiplyer is 12.5x)? My mobo is the A7V and I'm planning on getting a 1.4GHz 200FSB CPU myself. Also, what is the VCore setting for a 1.4GHz 200FSB chip?

Another thing. Why has the A7V got the option of a 133MHz FSB if it could never be used? Or am I missing something?

Dudster,

The 1008 offical BIOS remaps the 5x to the 14x multiplier so if it won't work in jumper mode it automatically selects the 5x. And I'm still doing the research on the VCore settings. I don't think you can ever get ANY mobo to work to it full 133 Mhz potential. I've only seen some people get it as high as 107. Anything higher than that it either won't post, windows refuses to load or hangs on the memory test. You can slowly try it...make sure you start at 100 and work your way up until the computer becomes unstable.

By the way, puchase a new fan for the 1.4 or you'll fry it instatntly...lol.

Thanks Splitz http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Yeah, I need to look into it a bit more but I think I'll get the Globalwin Fop32 (I think that's what it's called). If that won't do then I might get the Fop38 (which apparently is quite noisy).

So I'll need to find out what the Vcore setting is for the 1.4GHz before I get it but apart from that, I'm all set. Correct me if I'm wrong. To get the 1.4GHz 200FSB to work I:

*Try not to break the CPU socket on my A7V when removing the old CPU heatsink
*install the latest official BIOS (1008)
*Turn off JumperFree mode
*Set the multiplier to 5x
*Leave the FSB at 100MHz
*Set the Vcore to whatever it turns out to be (if it needs changing from "CPU Default").
*Format drive and reinstall OS and everything http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif (though I will try and avoid that)

Edit: I think I will try it in JumperFree mode first just to see if I get lucky.

Just a good note, flash the BIOS first to 1008. I flashed not more than an 3 hours ago and haven't had a stability problem yet. Make sure that the HSF is attacted to the CPU correctly. I forgot to ask, what Rev board are you using??? 1.01 or 1.02 and above?? Anymore questions feel FREE to e-mail me at eric_milleruk@yahoo.com

flash the BIOS first to 1008
http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Yeah I didn't make that clear but I already knew that. Thanks for stressing the fact though, it is an important one.

My temp sensor is built-in so my mobo must be at least Rev. 1.02 (which does sound familier). It's been nearly a year since I checked though http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I've bookmarked that link you posted too. It looks pretty good though the forums were still down when I checked before.

Thanks, if I have real trouble finding the correct Vcore setting, I'll probably email ya http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

oops, forgot to mention. Disable Byte Merger before you flash and flash twice just to be sure.

http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Thanks but I've never enabled Byte Merge. It's still good to know though. Does it (Byte Merge) benefit performance much? Are there any possible issues with having it enabled?

I also reset the BIOS to default settings before flashing it.

I'm not to sure about that. However, alot of people have told me to disable it. Hey, I just learn from other peoples mistakes...lol. Tell me how it works out because I've got a 1.2 in the A7V right now and I wanted to upgrade my wife's computer and I want a 1.4 for mine....:-)

What is the max processor speed that the Asus A7V can handle? I've seen some conflicting numbers ranging from 800mhz to 1.4ghz. Anyone have a 1.4ghz chip on an A7V mb? Thanks.

http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Ok, I'll just leave Byte Merge disabled.

I won't be getting the CPU for about another month probably (money) but I'll email you with the results (unless I break my computer http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif).

lol, no problem. I've got the same problem here. It's amazing that the 266FSB CPU's are CHEAPER than the 200FSB. I can get a 1.4 for around $114 or £80 + shipping.

I can answer that one.

With the 1008 (offical) BIOS the A7V (any revision) can goto up to the 1.4Ghz 200FSB CPU. Note...NOT the 266. You'll have to manually input the FSB and Freq Multiple and the VCore. You CANNOT run in Jumperless mode. I've heard of one person being able to automatically detect the 1.4 in Jumperless mode. I think he was just lucky...ha ha ha. There is a better forum for JUST the A7V series of mobo's at...
www.a7vtroubleshooting.com (http://www.a7vtroubleshooting.com)

As of 2:50pm CST the forum was down but other things were available at the website. I've found it VERY useful.

Hope this helps!

http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif £80+shipping! Where from? The best price I've seen is £111 from here (http://www.insight.com/cgi-bin/bp/156962558/uk/result.html?a=s&f=p&d=&t=A&c=O&mm=AMD&hp=&k=&mp=)

*second thoughts*

Is the £80 actually for the 266FSB version?

Doesn't really matter what the 266FSB CPU costs. It won't work in the A7V 200FSB board. Oops, I forgot that you gotta pay in £'s and I was looking on $ websites. If you goto www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) you might be able to find one that ships internationally and give you a good exchange rate from $ to £. I'm a US servicemember in Suffolk county and I've found it cheaper that way but to get the better rate you'd have to pay by credit card.

Remember, only the 200FSB CPU works in the A7V series.

http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Ok thanks. I'm not keen on ordering stuff from overseas though so I'll just pay the £111 (unless the price drops by the time I get it).
