My k7s5a is now working very well with a 900 tbird and v3 2000
Except...

For the onboard audio. And even that sounds good all around except for Viper Racing, which is terrible, cracking, static, worthless.

I had the same problem with Viper on a system I just built with a K7vza Via chipset. But in that case I upgraded to the audio drivers on the Via website. that fixed that.

But I can't find any different drivers for the adio on the k7s5a. I tried using the drivers from the AC97 folder on the CD instead of the Sis635, but they didn't work.

Does anybody know of an alternative? Thanks

Oh well, yet again ...

AC97 is not a programming model for stupid sound engines, it's an interconnect bus between sound engine and codec.

For any given sound engine (the piece in the chipset) you need the appropriate drivers - SiS 7012 in your case. The codec just handles the digital-to-analog conversion of the processed sound data, and is almost completely irrelevant for the driver (other than for the in/out switching and volume control).

Visit www.sis.com (http://www.sis.com) and see if they have anything newer. Chances are they do.
