Hi, I came into work the other day and discovered that someone had set a bios password on the machine, so even i, the Admin, had no access to the machine.
how can i stop people from doing this in the furure? Along with any other tips.
Someone suggested hiding the bios access route (i.e. press [??] to access the BIOS). If that's the best way how do i do that?

My first thought would be large hammer. Lay his fingers on desk top. Then apply down ward force to hammer. Make sure it is the right hand. (If the person is right handed).
Then the rest will learn real fast. The computer setup is your job.
This will remove the pass word. I picked this one up from here.

DEBUG BIOS PASSWORD
Courtesy of Chris (scary_fast_99@yahoo.com).
"This DOS trick resets (deletes) your motherboard BIOS (CMOS) password, to grant access to your computer and/or BIOS Setup once again, IF you have forgotten or lost it. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Exit Windows or reboot to the native MS-DOS mode, using the "Command prompt only" option from the Windows 95/98 Startup Menu (hold Shift and F5 at the same time while your PC boots).
At the C:\> prompt, type:
DEBUG
and hit Enter. You'll see a dash (-) at the DEBUG prompt. Now type:
o 70 2e
which will show as -o 70 2e at the DEBUG prompt. Hit Enter. Then type:
o 71 ff
and hit Enter. Finally type:
Q
and hit Enter one last time, to quit DEBUG, back to the C:\> prompt.
Now you're ready to reboot your PC, and press the appropriate key or key combo (look it up in your motherboard manual if you don't know it) to access your BIOS Setup. You'll notice that the password is gone. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif"
NOTE: This works only with MS-DOS 6.00 - 6.22 and MS-DOS 7.xx [a.k.a. MS Windows 9x].
As far as the rest of what your wanting. Better let some one with more experence than me answer. They will also need to know what OS your on to.

Thanks for that. However, I should have mentioned that we are running windows 2000. Your initial suggestion does sound the best option http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
but, like you said wait and see what others say. At least you helped realise I should have mentioned the OS.

I don't know what your work's policies are, but locking an Admin out should be a fairly serious offense?

It would get you fired where I work. Can't you just put in a pass word into all the computers to block this. Your pass word I mean. If they can't get into it won't happen agin.
