Hello, I just purchased the new P4 + the Intel 850GB motherboard. This is my first attempt at upgrading an old system. I do not want to get into the "what's faster" game. I actually purchased a combo of P4 + Motherboard + RAM + CASE + Power Supply. I moved all components from the old PC into the new box. I turned it on and the only thing I noticed was an Intel light goes on on the motherboard. Nothing else works. The Power Supply fan doesn't even go on. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be wrong? I have replaced many components in a PC before but never a motherboard.

The Power Supply is a 300W.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

I assumed you get
the case for P4
the RAM for P4
the intel850MB has a switch on the MB. two status: setup bios or normal(default). You may check it first.
Once you log into he MB bios, check if you get what you paid, then follow the menu to setup...
My experience, win2000 is best OS to this combo. Upto your video card, win-ME or win98se maybe second best OS, I prefer win-me.
Good luck.

Thanks Beaver, what it looks like is that the schematic/diagram for the front panel wires is wrong. even on Intel's website it is wrong. I say this because I began to rotate the connections until it finally it worked. I plugged the main power wire in the HD-LED that is displayed on the motherboard itself. I am up and running now. Still haven't found where the reset, HD-LED and other wires though. At least it is up and running.

Thanks again.

You are talking the manual? Yes, it's wrong. My wife found it and pointed it out to me. This error wasted me long time.

Enjoy your P4 box.

Oh yeah! The manual, the motherboard itself and the (supposedly) updated schematics at Intel's website. I must have spent 4 hours trying to get it to work the first night. The next day I began to ignore the manual that came with the board.
