A MBJETAUDSND mother board,a 64m sdram chip and a 32m sdram chip. the differant sized ram would not operate together is this the rule or the exception.

They should work together if they are the same timing/speed. May just be an exception. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Oddly enough, I just added a few megs of RAM to my computer today. One of the things I saw in my manual for my particular mobo was that the big stick of RAM had to go in the first slot and the little stick goes in the second slot. Or in my case, the two big sticks go in first then the little stick.

Maybe your mobo needs to have the RAM installed in a similar fashion. It's a thought :-)

just to let you know ,i am a 10 month computer operator (that is how long i have owned and operated one),it is a built machine not by me.I wanted to have 96m of ram, the guy who built it thought it would handle the 32 and the 64. the book i had with the system about the mobo showed only paired configs.it has 4 vacant simm slots and 2 dimm slots.would some simm improve the performance at all.

Well, with ram, theres a few things to consider:

Dont mix Dimms with Simms, Simms usually operate at 5V, whilt Dimms uswually operate at 3.3V. When you mix them, the 3.3v chip is exposed to the 5V output from the simm. This causes compatibility and longevity problems.

Dimms can generally be mixed, regardless of size. If they are on a 66Mhz FSB, almost all will work in any order as long as the first slot the mb picks up actually has a dimm in it. If at 100Mhz bus, some dimms wont work with others, even if they are all PC-100, but some PC-66 or earlier dimms will work better.

If you have simms, they must be placed in matched pairs. 2 simms are in each bank. Some mb's dont like a larger bank after the smaller bank, some the opposite applies. In some mb's only a certain amount will be recognized in each bank (this can usually be corrected by a bios flash).

Remember, if in doubt, search the web for data on your specific mb.
