Not sure If I blundered. I bought a 900 duron cause it was cheap. $65 w/ heatsink and fan. Now when I look at mobo's they say 800-850 duron. Is this a problem? Does it matter? Any suggestions?

Check the mobo maker's website for a BIOS upgrade or jumper setting for the new CPUs.

What MoBo did you get?

What MB?

The MB maker might have more up to date documentation as to whether the MB can support it or not. I have bought various MB that say they only support a range, but, they actually can run a higher CPU than what the initial documentation states.

You could see if there is a new BIOS to flash it.

sorry about that, I think I found something reasonably cheap. Thinking of getting the board w/ ATX midtower 400w ps shipped for $125. If you know of a better deal, let me know. The board is $56. Their porking me on the s+h= $34

Their documentation is scary. The board is for an Athlon/Duron, but the download docs talk about INTEL.

Most likely the Duron 900 was not out when this board was created. I think it will run this CPU for the following reason. The FSB is 100mhz. To run the Athlon 1.2g would mean it has a multiplier of 12. So, 12 x 100 = 1.2. The 900 would have a multiplier of 9 which is definitly within the multiplier spec.

I've got a cheep pc chips board, was only rated to 800mhz, but it runs my 900tbird just fine.
