Any suggestions as to which chipset is the best for Athlon. I am having a hard time selecting a mobo and have decided to base my decision on the best chipset. I want to build a system w/ DDR RAM and 1Ghz Athlon.

NDD 07-23-2001, 11:02 AM What do you looking for ? I'm sorry to say this but non of them will give you all the qualities you want from motherboard. KT266 is nice, but already have some kind of bug, so new revision supposed to be launched soon (performance issues should be fixed) AMD760 is most stable and fast, but not very overclockable, and expensive, too. SiS735 is the newest, I saw a small preview of mobo based on this one, and reviewers weren't totally pleased, althought they said SiS did really good job this time. Sorry if couldn't help much http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif Best Regards ... Bula 07-23-2001, 03:54 PM Thanks a bunch for your input. It's tough selecting a motherboard. How does the EPOX -8K7A look? Anyone with first hand experience out there? I am not looking to overclock it and more than speed value reliability. In that case is ASUS A7A266 (AliMagik) any reliable. Sleep21 07-23-2001, 09:32 PM I can't give hands-on advice, but I am building two computers, both need to be stable, Mine's going to be A7a266 and my GF's going to be IWILL KK266(not DDR) everywhere I look, they're supposed to be stable, I've been researching for months. If anyone thinks otherwise, please reply, I need some input too. gdlewis 07-24-2001, 04:00 AM People say the Asus A7A266 is a bit sluggish due to the ALi chipset. A better choice for the DDR board may be the Epox EP-8K7A, a friend of mine has it and seems to like it alot. I have the Iwill KK266 and think it's great, very stable, recommended. Imperion1 07-24-2001, 04:41 PM I have the 8k7a w/ T-bird 1G OCd 1.33G with the vcore at stock setting, and it runs very stable for me. Epox also has the 8kta3 Pro, its a new motherboard and is supposed to be stable. http://www.epox.com/html/english/products/motherboard/ep-8kta3pro.htm www.epox.com.tw (http://www.epox.com.tw) bobyt1 07-25-2001, 09:23 PM just built a new system with a 1.2ghz athlon t-bird, 512 mb ddr, geforce 2 gts 32mb ddr video. put it all on a msi k7 master, with a amd 761 northbridge and via southbridge combination. runs very stable and will oc very esily with bios setting, no jumper or dip switches take a look on toms hardware and hardocp web sites for board benchmarks etc. SysOpt.com
