Forgive me if this has nothing to do with Sysopt, as I did just visit ATI's page while looking at a sysopt thread...but whats this popup I just got? I mean in all honesty its your site..but....advertisement popups are annoying!!!

You have been selected to take part in a limited study of IT Professionals. Would you like to share your opinions with us?

And again all I know I have to do is say "no" and close it and I am overreacting but I caught me off guard.

Edit-->
Ok so I clicked on yes anyway....and its A sysopt forum question. Sorry, Dont mind filling out your survey. Long day.

I hate popups of any kind.....call me a dork.......but I will usually not visit a site if it is using popups.

We have one on the forum now for every 10th visitor. If you click no, it should not appear again. It won't remain on here for long - EarthWeb is trying to collect some demographic data, which is essential to sell advertising to the right audience.

Might be how I've got my colors set up in Netscape, but seems to me that black letters on a dark blue background are a good example of how NOT to design readable graphics.

I'm going to demonstrate my ignorance (or my advanced age) in a BIG way, so here goes:

What the hell is waerz?? I've seen it mentioned several times in various threads and then there are scornful replies like it was a plutonium repository.

My guess it's either hackers or porn or naked hackers. Right??

Be kind now...

Mainly for PIRATES, if you want porn etc goto Yahoo and do a search for warez, but make sure you got a real good AV and are prepared to do a lot of cusing after you get H/drive messed up and spend the next few days cleaning it up.
best stayed clear off.

From www.whatis.com (http://www.whatis.com)
Warez (pronounced as though spelled "wares" or possibly by some pronounced like the city of "Juarez") is a term used by software "pirates" to describe software that has been stripped of its copy-protection and made available on the Internet for downloading. People who create warez sites sometimes call them "warez sitez" and use "z" in other pluralizations. In our brief investigation of warez sites, we found a number of sites to be permanently "under construction." Several included freeware and shareware that is legally downloadable.

x35agent.

If you dislike pop-ups so much, you could run with Java/Scripting disabled. Then you won't have the pop-up problem.

warez sites are the worst for pop-ups, on the rare occasion that i stumble upon one the pop-ups are similar to nuking a bag of orville's popcorn......and pop-ups within pop-ups, the tough part is getting all the **** windows closed. i have even had these things crash my browser........BUT THE MOST DREADED pop-up of all is the one that fills your whole screen and there is no X to close it.....ahhhhhhhhhh ctrlaltdel

Thanks for the explanation folks!

If these people would just spend their time in more productive endeavors, then they could actually buy the software that they tamper with! I'm not amused by their "creativity" and they are not software savants or super-geniuses. Rather, they are idlers and contemptible thieves no matter what they call their sites.

Popups are kind of annoying, but if it is for this board, then I will take my medicine and fill it out. I hope that it will help keep this one free and free from trolls at the same time.

Ok, which popup are you referring to that pops up every 2-3 visits? The one on the home page asking you to signup for the newsletter, or the one on the user reviews page and the message board, asking for your participation in a survey? In both cases, if you do not have cookies enabled, you will likely see the popup every time. Cookies are our friends.

I'll enable cookies at trusted sites, make sure that Sysopt is a trusted site and all should be well. I was referring to the pop-up at the home page, I must just be getting the luck of the draw and happen to be the 10th visitor more often than not. Thanks for the tip Scott, I think maybe the fact that I set Sysopt.com and not Sysopt.earthweb.com as my trusted site, might be part of the problem too (I'll set both).
Thank you Sysopt,

I had that survey pop up once. Not knowing it was for SysOpts benefit, I closed it (mostly out of habit http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif)

It probably would've been a good idea to post about it when they first started so we would know what it was http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

That pop-up seems to pop-up about every 2-3 visits to Sysopt.com, http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif I've clicked no but it just isn't taking no for an answer. (or do you mean that it won't appear again during that session?)
Sure is getting annoying, hope this advertising campaign is over soon. I've disabled Java applets, set my security to high for this site (actually I'd prefer to think of Sysopt as a trusted site where I can relax my settings a tad) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Socalgal, by disabling Java scripting, do you mean Java applets, or am I on the wrong fairway?
Thanks for any info or advice on disabling that dang pop-up. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
I do realize that advertising is what keeps us here and all that, it's just nice to keep it to the "not so annoying kind" if ya know what I mean.
Thanks Sysopt,
I love this site, and do appreciate the improvements you have been making.
~Thanks~ http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
