Red Hat? Caldera? SlackWare? S.u.S.E? Debian? Corel?

I'm instaling Linux, and I'm trying to decide which one to install, I'm a complete Linux Beginner, even though I'm quite good with other aspects of computing, so I might not need a complete beginner distribution if you know what I mean. Anyway, bye.

Mandrake 7.0 is the best IMO for the desktop. Lots of innovative features & programs, as well as nice little things like a color-coded shell. Also takes the best features of Red Hat, like RPMs.

The newer version of Mandrake promises to be even better. One thing I like is DrakFont. If you have Windows installed, it allows you to use all your Windows Fonts (C:\Windows\Fonts) in Linux. If you've ever used Netscape in Linux with a desktop resolution of 1024x768 or greater, you'll understand how great this is.

Hopefully they'll fix DrakUpdate (like Windows Update) too.

I too am an advanced Windows user, but I'm glad I started w/ Mandrake. You can get it installed and begin learning Linux, instead of having to learn how to install Linux. You can always install another distribution later.

My favorite distribution for a server environment is Slackware, currently at version 7 I think.

All I run is Slackware 7.0. It's slim, clean, without all the BS of other distro's.
