Scott mentioned to click on the ads a while ago http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/005718.html .
I think SysOpt's audience is fantastic and I'm just trying to do my part to maintain high standards around here. I wouldn't trade this audience for that of any other hardware related site out there (except it would be great if you all would click on the ads a bit more often! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ).
Let's all click the ads a couple of times for Scott (not for the advertisers!)

Does the new window have to finish loading for it to count? Or does it count the minute we click?

Well, ideally, our advertisers would like everyone to click through and look around a bit. All I ask is that everyone keep a marginally http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif open mind about the ads, and if its a subject they are interested in and are likely to want more info about, instead of thinking "I'll go look at compaq.com later" or something, just click on the ad now http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif. That's the best / most fair way to do it.
But to answer your question, a click through counts as soon as the final destination page loads (might not be true in all cases but some advertisers do make sure the page loads and they check those numbers against the banner ad tracking software numbers).

I am actually surprised by some of the ads. A few decent, and actually offer some cool services and products that I would otherwise not know about.

Just hit ctrl+n to open a new window, and go back. Let it load.
SHHH! We don't want anyone to know that we do this.

I just went thru a bunch (Have to help Scott pay for the new spell checker, and I think Socalgal deserves a raise), besides I dump all my cookies and temp files weekly. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

If you just right click and choose "open in a new window" you won't loose the window with the SysOpt forum in it.
I just went to one of the sponsers, browsed around, checked to see if a desired domain name was availible...and it was! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

RobRich is right, some of the ads really aren't that bad. I almost never click on banner ads but I'll do it this time - for Sysopt. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Also Shift+Left_Click will work the same as Open in New Window in IE.

When I click on a banner in netscape it opens in a new window. I don't remember seeing a setting for this though?
