Is there anything different besides onboard video with CUSL2 and CUSL2-C?

What is the best memory to use with this board? I'm planning on using 256megs.

Any thing other pros or cons about this board?

I'm putting toghter a new box for my son who likes to play games. This is the board I want to use.

Thanks for any help.

Bob

The topic says Asus. That is the brand.

Well the CUSL2 uses the 815E chipset and the CUSL2-C uses the 815EP chipset. For a run down of the different chipsets check Intel site (http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/linecard/mainstream.htm?iid=PCG+devside&) . The C has audio as an option and can has headers for an extra 2 USB ports. The non-C has TV/LCD connectors (onboard video and all) and headers for an additional 5 USB ports.

The video might be a moot point and the USB issue is defintely moot since USB hubs are so cheap.

Asus CUSL2-C without o/b video, 256MB RAM, with plain GeForce2 MX/400 32MB would be nice gaming machine, but can you consider AMD ?

From personal experience I do not recommend this board. Do a search on Google Usenet and you will see what I mean.

If you want an Intel 815EP mainboard get the MSI 815EP Pro, MSI 6337 Rev 3.0B.

But AMD is the way to go. 1.33GHz for $140!

I own the Asus CUSL2-C Black Pearl now.
I had the CUSL2 before. I run a P3 1ghz @ 1125 with Mushkin ram at 2-2-2. The board rocks and I use the cool iPanel feature.

This is one of the best boards I've owned.

Check here for lots of info on the board. http://www.asusboards.com formerly www.cusl2c.com (http://www.cusl2c.com)

The CUSL2 mainboard was released after Win98SE, so Win98SE does not have any of the drivers for this board. Taking a few little precautions first, this OS can still be installed and can expect proper operation from it.

May find a later OS to be even better.

I had to set one IRQ within the BIOS as a legacy device in order for my soundcard drivers to install.
