Anyone know, is it on time, when will it hit the streets, will it work, will it be backwards compatable?
I apoligize if this shows up twice, I posted a similiar question yesterday but that didn't show up.
Thank you.
Backwards compatible to what ? HyperTransport is just a bus which connects various devices on the motherboard (CPU with memory controller, for example).

By backwards compatable I mean will an athalon I buy today work with the hyper transport motherboard I buy next year? What about other stuff like memory and other stuff you stick into todays pci slots, will they now work in hyper transport slots at the increased speed?
I'm itching to put together a new system and I'd be willing to buy a less expensive motherboard now if thats the only thing I'll be tossing when the hyper stuff hits the streets.

for some hyper transport data.
After you cleared your question, the answer is "yes". HyperTransport provides higher bandwidth, enabling faster data transfer, but will be fully backwards compatible with existing technologies. As long as mobo with HyperTransport in it will use Socket A - you'll be able to put your Athlon in it.
