I ordered an A7v133 with a Tbird 1333 C (133Mz FSB) chip. I originally had concerns about this combo as asus reports that the board only handles 1GHz processors and AMD does not list this board as recommended for 1333 chips. (funny though they do list this board for 1200 chips)

I read the info in this forum but didn't arrive at any solid conclusions:

People said that having a 1004 or newer BIOS fixes it. I currently own an A7V and have had it since december. This board came with 1004 BIOS on it already. Did they restart the BIOS rev. numbers for the new board or womething because It is hard for me to believe that some people use 1003 BIOSes?

Thanks a lot

Also, what is your take on shims? I have a non-condutive shim here but am wary of using it. Reason being I read somewhere that putting on a shim reduces the pressure exerted on the cpu core which is necessary for optimal heat transfer.

the A7V and A7V133 use diff bios files and yes the #'s are diff a check at asus web site will show you that

as for the diff between the A7V133 bios file the 1003 does not support chip speeds of 133/266MHz for the the newer t-birds just ran into this problem a few weeks ago with a AXIA 1gig chip would only post at 750MHz till I updated the bios then it ran at 1 gig with out a problem.

my current system is a A7V133 with a 1 gig AHIA chip running at 1.33 will do and was running it at 1.5 gig but summers here and it gets **** hot http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

all I can say is I love this board been as stable as any system can get http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I just finished helping a colleague put together a similar system with bios version 1002A. It only auto-detected at 1 ghz. I set the parameters in the bios to User Defined and set the memory and processor speeds to 133 and voila it's now detected and running at 1.333 ghz.

I just bought an ASUS A7V133 yesterday and it had the 1001a BIOS. I flashed it with 1005a before I tried anything, but it didn't have any trouble with my 1.2GHz.
