I would like someone to recommend the right motherboard for games and entertainment including the RAM needed and other items. I am new to building computers and don't know where to start.

Thanks.

You're not looking to overclock your hardware are you? If so, then you might want to go for brands which offer stability and performance, like Asus.

If you're looking to overclock, then you'd go for Abit boards.

Just my POV. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

First you need to think of what OS your going to use. Each one of them win98, win98se, me, 2k all have thier own little quirks. Then watch the boards for what problems everyone is haveing with each one. 2k seams to be driver related plus some games won't run without a lot of work if ever. ME is slower than win98 or 98se. Or at least on the few systems I have been on it is.
Then think of the processor you want to use. Intel cpu's aren't to pickey about hardware. Amd's can be very pickey. Go to the amd web site and look for the recommended parts list. To stop the problems before you buy.
Next I would say memory. Buy as much as you can afford for the computer. If you thinking of playing on line. I would say at least 128 meg- 256 meg is better. The Os will help you determine that. Over 256 and the home version of windows (98,98SE,ME) don't use the memory very much. 2K will use all you throw at it.
This will give you a lot of home work to do. But in the long run you build a problem free system. Or as problem free as you can hope to make it. Just do your home work well. I try not to make a recommendition on what parts to use. Everyone has thier favorites. So you will get a lot of different thoughts on what is best. But you are the one that is paying the bill. So do the home work and listen to what other people say about problems on the boards to help you decide.

Oh, and don't leave your budget out of your mind. How much cash have you decided to set aside for this board? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
