Okay guyz, what do you think about this? Doze 98 vs. 98 se? I've heard a lot of cons about going to se, but has anyone had a good experience with se?

I have the opportunity to give it a try, and I thought I'd see what kind of feedback I got first.

Currently running 98 (FE?), but thinkin' real dern hard about doin' the deal.

So.............????????

Thanks

I run the first edition of 98 with all the updates from Microsoft installed and it runs fine.

If you are considering a purchase of 98SE, I would just wait a month or so for Windows ME to come out. I think the release is supposed to be in June.

I've got both and there's not a really big difference between them. SE has some nice features in it. But if you were going to install SE, then reformat first. That way it's a clean install.

Good Luck.

98se is easier in setup i think you have to hit your enter button 6 times.i am running 98fe.i have setup a boat load of 98se,you still have to put hardware mfg drivers in.all the features you can download from MS.save your money.

Hi Mike,
I use Win98 @ work and Win98SE @ home, as noted above, there's not a lot of difference. It's just an observation, but I do think the SE is more stable. I have fewer problems with it although I keep my home computer tweaked and tuned up and it is a better comp. I'd agree that it all depends on if you have to invest much for the SE. I doubt that you would notice a great difference.
Best of luck,

Hey Slammer: You know how I feel about 98 2nd edition...liked to ruin my computer!!!!
But works OK on my daughters. Guess a clean install instead of the upgrade may have worked better. Now that I have all my applications working right( all at the same time time with minimal crashes [Netscape mostly] ) I feel I have the reins on 98 on my computer. Maybe when the Netscape update has all the bugs out of it , things will go more smoothly. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

There's no doubt in my mind that Win98 SE from a clean install is great!

Wait a month and get Windows Millennium Edition it is worth the wait and has way more new features than SE.
The only differences of SE that I know of are Internet connection sharing and most of the 98 updates. But if the price is right give it a try.

Well, you could say the price is right! HA!

er hmm. Anyway, you might say it's negligable. But, it won't update on my existing setup, so I guess I'd have to go ahead and format and reload. Don't think I'm quite ready for that right now.

So, I guess I'll just go ahead and use my 98 with all of the MS "updates" downloaded from the Win update site.

Kinda wish I hadn't tried the IE 5.5 though, now it NEVER remembers passwords. Always asks if I want it to remember them,. but then doesn't.

Anyway, have fun y'all...
