Is Gigabyte a good company? Do they make good motherboards? You see, I ordered this model: GIGABYTE 7ZX-1, for a 1.2ghz thunderbird with 256MB of PC133 ram but I don't know if that motherboard manufacturer is good. I have seen problems with these m/b maker in these forums but nothing special or out of his world.. So..
Give me your 2 cents..!!

Yes, Gigabyte is a good motherboard company. Their boards seem to be aimed toward the high end OEM market. They seem to place stability and reliability as the top priorities. As for the down side, they generally aren't very good for serious overclockers, or people who like to constantly tweak their BIOS settings to get the ultimate performance.

Of course, this is just my opinion - other opinions may vary.

Same here - use Gigabytes' production for a year, 7ZX and 7ZXR - can remember only few problems, just bad mobos (happens http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif )

I echo ragtops reviews, I have a Gigabtye board in one of my machines and haven't had any problems with it at all. As he stated, they are not the best for overclocking/tweaking but if you are not into that, it is a good choice.
If you are into tweaking, Abit and Asus are good boards for that, because they seem to have alot of ways to adjust parameters thru software (softbios) instead of setting jumpers.

That's ok. I haven't been a good fan of overclocking (though I have my Celeron 300a at 450 and running stable and my super overclockable AMD K62 500--hehehe). I just want a good, cheap, reliable board!

Does this board performs well? Do you know of any reviews?

Thanks for the info./.

Soooo.. ok. The version I have of my board it's the same as in the review but without the sound, 2nd BIOS and the ISA slot?
It should perform the same or almost the same then? Are those numbers in the review good or bad.??

Sorry for so many questions..!! hehehe

It should perform the same, and the numbers in review are good http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Gigabyte is rated with top motherboard makers, as Asus, Abit, MSI, etc ...

I'll keep you guys posted when I receive the "goods". I ordered almost a complete system since my Voodoo just wont cut it with a 1.2ghz. Here's the setup:

AMD Thunderbird 1.2ghz
Gigabyte m/b
256 PC133 Ram
20gb WD HD 7200rpm ATA 66
Elsa GeForce MX400 64RAM with TV out
generic 52x CDROM
Toshiba DVD/CDRW combo
Sound Blaster Live
etc..

Does this sounds good.???

You didn't specify what mobo you ordered, I'd go for 7ZXR rev2, and ATA100 HD.
Also, V2 can work on AMD, you just need special drivers ...

Well, ND, I already ordered the Gigabyte 7ZX-1. It's a level-entry board (which is good for me since my budget is tight) but it can manage. I know that the Voodoo is going to work.. but man... just look at my 3dmark2001 benchmark (video cards forum).

And since I'm buying a new mobo, cpu and soundcard, I was going to have a bottleneck.. yes.. videocard.. so I ordered the GeForce...!!

YEAHH baby,..!! I assembled my new computer (yesterday -- read specs above) and what can I say?? I'm hooked.

I have run some reliability tests and I'm impressed with this board! It has crashed a lot on 3dmark2001 but apart from that, it runs without hiccups or problems.!!

Congrats !!!

Now post the whole specs of your new system, let's try to fix this problem with 3DMark2001 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Well my system specs now:

AMD Thunderbird 1.2ghz
Gigabyte 7ZX-1 motherboard
256 PC133 ram
Elsa Geforce MX400 64mb
Sound Blaster Live Value
20gb Western Digital UATA66
dvd/cdrw Toshiba Drive Combo

that's it for now...

I discovered my problem in 3dmark2001 !!! COOLING!! Since I haven't bought any additional fans, my cpu was getting hot (and since I live in Puerto Rico, temp. are often high) so it crashed.!

I opened the case, had a normal fan blowing straight to the motherboard and the test ran well.
Now, these are my benchmarks, would you please tell me if they are alright?????

Sisoft Sandra 2001se

CPU Benchmark:
ALU:3330
FPU:1680

Multimedia Bench:
Integer MMX Enhanced: 6506
FP 3dnow Enhanced: 8225

Now for video card/... Are rthese good or do I need to tweak the card (I'm trying that now).

3dmark 2000:
1024x768x32 settings high T&L enabled: 3428
800x600x16 everything 16bit T&L enabled: 6882

3dmark 2001:
default settings(i.e. 1024x768 all high: 2300
800x600 everything 16bit: 3269

How are these scores.??? Are they good.??? Any tips???!!

Thanks a bunch.!

I dont like their 7dxc motherboard. Is does not have many overclocking options built in. I think it was a mistake to buy it. I spent almost $$$200. I cant I because it was not my money.
