Axel 04-27-2000, 06:32 AM Then some of us would be on here all day until we got caught - then get fired - then we couldn't support our bad habits..... Otherwise - I love it - solving issues real-time is the new wave in tech support. I'd want to see a "post to forum" button so some of the knowledge would make it into the archives so people could search against it. Only thing is we'd need a warm moderator to watch the chat area the whole time it was up. skywalker[TSG] 04-27-2000, 09:07 AM well thats true but hey it would be fun plz scott me want a chat SoopaStar 04-27-2000, 09:22 AM Heck, I would love to moderate it! I already am a moderator of a telnet based chat called the Village (village.pb.net port 5000 or village.pb.net/~village), as well as a few defunct/dead chatters that fell to the www chatrooms. I also moderate (@) a few IRC channels. There are a few other members in here that I know would be good at it as well http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Paul C skywalker[TSG] 04-27-2000, 11:54 AM hmm now we have 3 moderators including me soopastar and socalgal scott does the UBB or the software u use support a chat function ?? i see no reason why we should not have chat on sysopt.com Apostle 83 04-27-2000, 10:14 PM skywalker, ubb doesn't have a chat program, and to mod it to would be... stupid. All they have to do is set up a chat room. but, I'm guessing they don't want to. 1)a lot of bandwidth down the tubes 2)legal issues 3)it would become silly We hate silly scallywags! SysOpt 04-27-2000, 10:35 PM I've thought about it and I think it would be a good idea to add to the site. EarthWeb owns a site/app called ChatPlanet, but the company is reworking the software. So, we'd want to use our own internal app I'm sure. I'll be sure to spread the word that we'd like to implement it. skywalker[TSG] 04-28-2000, 10:12 AM well apostle it would i guess be a computer related chat not just any old chat and the idea is good since you then could get real time answers to your questions awwall 04-28-2000, 10:45 AM I agree skywalker, chat room would be terrific, if kept to computer related issues only. I would never want to see it evolve into silliness. my 2 cents aw jadison 04-28-2000, 02:51 PM This is something many of us have been asking about for a long time...personally I think the Forum wouldn't be used as much because the chat rooms would be filled with people asking there questions and getting (more or less) immediate responses. There are pros and cons to this possible chat room. We just need to weigh them both and see if having one is such a good idea after all, if we do I think we should have one in conjunction with the forum. It seems if we did have a chat, it would prove most useful, I have visited over 300 other different chat rooms (computer-related) to ask questions and it turns out everyone else is talking about obscene subjects or other stuff that has nothing to do with the TOPIC OF THE CHAT ROOM. I think, no I know the people here @ SysOpt would be different, and if anything our Chat Room would be the best ever. So now that I got all that out, lets see what happens... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif -jd- Barney 04-28-2000, 03:11 PM A chatroom would be great! I think it would cut down the number of 'no topic' threads. I would really like to chat with some of the members here! And ofcourse questions could be answered immediatly. Scott, nice to know you were already working on a chatroom http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/icons/icon14.gif . Ronald Eli 04-28-2000, 04:52 PM I think the moderators should be nominated instead of volunteers... [This message has been edited by Eli (edited 04-28-2000).] SysOpt.com
