Hi all,

Need some help here,

I want to utilize my L2 cache on my Biostar motherboard, the system tells me I have a "cache memory" of 512k.

My CPU has a L1 cache of 64k

A friend gave me a Registery Key used in WinNT to access and use the L2 Cache, I tried it and the system does seem quite bit faster.

Is there any other tricks that I could try to optimize the cache on the system.

Windows 98
192 SD RAM

Thanks for the help...

What CPU do u have?
I cant recall any CPU having 64k L1 cache.

The 512k Cache is your L2 Cache.

64kb of L1 cache-IDT Winchip, AMD K6, AMD K6-x. No cpu with 64kb of L1 cache has 512kb of L2 cache. The 512kb of cache is the L2 cache on your motherboard. There isn't really anyway to optimize it. Motherboard cache is different from cpu cache. CPU cache handles data the cpu is working on, motherboard cache speeds up ram and other I/O operations. The cache IS optimizing your system by working.

araraaa, sorry, no. Socket-7's cache on the mainboard caches CPU traffic, just as CPU internal cache does.
The difference lies in where the cache controller is, and on what bus the cache is on.
On socket-7, the mainboard's cache is controlled by the chipset, and it's on the CPU's front side bus.
On modern systems, the CPU internal level 2 cache is on a separate, fast back side bus, and the cache controller unit is in the CPU.
