I have an older box running an Abit BH6 motherboard. Upon installation I noticed that my CDR doesn't work as anything but a normal drive, and when I shut down, the system will not power down on it's own, acting like an old AT system. In the Device Manager, I have a few drivers listed as missing or otherwise incorrect under such headings as power managment, PCI bridge etc... With little concern I went to the Abit site expecting to download the needed drivers to no avail. They have a very disorganized sight sometimes containing little or no information in places about what the few drivers that they do have are for, what they are compatible with or what OS they are meant to work with. Everything works like a dream under Win98 using the Windows default drivers, but due to a change of needs, I require Win2K to be on this system and would like it to work on a decent level. Any ideas as to where to go or what to do folks?

THe reason your CDRW drive doesnt work is probably because the burning software isnt compatable with Win2k. The powering off thing has to do with ACPI. I'm not sure how to fix this though, but go to device manager and expand "computer" It should say ACPI PC. Probably something messed up in the configuration or something.
There are no Win2k drivers for a motherboard - The Intel Chipset drivers are bundled with any OS, and the board itself doesnt need any additional drivers to operate in Win2k.

Hi, what brand/model of CDR do you have? I have the Abit BH6 also and i have all the same problems as you. The power and everything. I have never bothered trying to fix the shutdown problem since im pretty much on all the time. But as for the CDR, i had just chalked it up to my burner not being compatible with win2k. Its a Memorex CRW-1622 (2x2x6x). I even wrote an email to Memorex and they told me there are no drivers for it in win2k. I have tried many burning programs but they will all lock up when i try to open them while i have a CDR or CDRW in my drive. Maybe someone knows a solution that might fix these problems.

Actually it's a buddy's box which I was picking up to work on. I sold him the mobo and only had the original driver CD meant for Win95/98 and NT4. He made a few assumtions, and I emphasize '***' and unfortunately I didn't have all of the info I should have at the time of my first posting. I installed an old copy of Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.0 for him, even though he said that he had tried it, and it worked perfect first time [No I'm not a pirate, I gave him my original now that I have a copy of 5.0 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif] As for the power problem, he hadn't set it up properly under Power Options in the Control Panel. After a quick few tweaks it was up and running in no time. Having all of the facts and little or not fiction certainly helps the troubleshooting process http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Thanks for your help though and good luck with your own box!
