P4T dilemma...

The new Bios update version 1004 supports 1.7Ghz Pentium 4 chips. What would you recommend a builder do if they buy a 1.7 chip and a P4T motherboard? Will the motherboard safely underclock the 1.7 until it has been flashed? In other words, if I am starting from scratch how can I make my 1.7Ghz chip function on a motherboard that needs a bios update to do so?
