Hello all,

I just got a brand new system.

Specs:
T-bird 1.3 GHz 266 FSB
Abit KT7A
512 Mb PC133 SDRAM (2x256)

I also got the brand new ASUS V8200 GeForce3 card.
This is not the first time I assembled a computer, so I went on as usual, assembling everything; now the **** thing wont even get to BIOS prompt! I can't even hear a system beep through the speaker.

The power supply is OK, the fans on North Bridge and CPU are turning, the HD sounds OK too, but nothing on screen!

I heard abount som incompatibility problems with ASUS cards on Abit MB, so I tried a Creative GeForce card. Same problem...

Any ideas? CPU problem or MB problem???

Appreciate the help!

Is your heatsinks fan plugged into the #1 header? If not it will only run for 10 seconds and shutdown, a safety measure built into the board...

The fan is connected and turning....

That's not it...

Try booting with only one stick of ram. Also make sure everything is seated properly. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Turned out I've got a bad CPU...had to change to a 1.2 :-(

Now it boots, I've installed Win ME and BOOM, it hangs 10 sec after logging in...

Any ideas? Never had this much trouble with a new PC.

BTW, Thanks for your help so far.

Had the same problem with a KT7A Raid. Try one stick of RAM.. Seems there is a problem with some Abit boards or Windows OS (or both). I was able to install Windows but could never complete some driver/program installs. Seems that when the system reaches a certain point in memory (which it reads as bad memory) if fails.. The system might just lock up on some occasions or when it would re-boot to complete the install it would never come back. Interestingly, I've had the same problem with two different Abit KT7A Raid boards (plus new memory chips), although other folks have not had any problems.. Must be luck of the draw or moon phases!?

I've found thru mine and friend's experiences, that the Abit motherboards prefer Micron or Crucial (same company) SDRAM modules.

I'm presently running my KT7-RAID on 2 256Mb Micron PC133 CAS3 modules in Turbo mode. Norton Diagnostics comes up with an error, but the system is dead stable and checks perfect with DocMemory from SimmTester (http://www.simmtester.com) .

Well guys,

I.ve got a stable system running my 1200/266 CPU in 1000/100 :-(

I can run Multiplier 8 with FSB 133 getting up to 1064 MHz, but the system tends to crash after 10 - 15 mins.

I've also tried upping the core voltage to 1.8 and IO to 3.6. Same deal...

Any other clues you guys?
