Just curious, why is your cc number on your computer? some kind of bill paying program?

Never used napster, audiofind.com has most of what I need.

What makes you think "hackers" are trying to get into your computer. I use it often and have noticed nothing out of the ordinary. Curious as to why yer CC# is on your computer too. Napster and I, we get along just fine.

I'm confused, did you or did you not have BID running?

If BID was not running, how were you able to determine a hacker was trying to access your hdd?

I sneezed once without covering my mouth and got hackers all over my computer. Luckily the case was on so none got inside. So there ya go, a case is the best protection for keeping hackers out.

(sorry all, I really couldn't contain that one)

Silly guyz, if you were like me and used a tone generator/tap key setup and just used your morse code - well, you wouldn't have to worry about the hackers! C'mon now, really!

Are you sure it was napster that they were going thru? or was it just that you happened to be on napster while hackers were searching for some open ports?

Wait a second now. I was thinking about this and how did BID pick this up?
BID would allow traffic to pass through both ways for the port that Napster is useing correct? So how would it pick up someone trying to hack you through Napster? If someone was trying to hack you through Napster they would have to go through the Napster server to get to your computer and BID would not pick that up since the port is being used by Napster.
Now what may have happened is that someone was scanning your ports and it just happened to be the same one used by Napster. That would make more sense to me because BID would pick this up as a scan.

I am far from an expert but it just does not make sense to me how BID would pick up a scan from a port and server that it has allowed acess to.
If I am wrong here some please correct me.

I was using Napster when some thugs broke into my car an stole my CDs. So if you have any valuables in your car, don't use Napster!

hehe, sorry KB, just having so fun at your expense. Don't take it personally...it means we love you. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Well,

I have zonealarm installed.

And about 20 to 30 times a day I get the message that zonealarm has blocked access to my computer from there and there.

I've learned to live with that.
I don't care if they are hackers or whatever.
Once, I had it so bad, my cdrom drive opened just by itself, I didn't do anything.

The first thing I did, and probably the most effective method there is, was pull the plug out of my ethernet card(I got cable connection).
Let's see em get in when I ain't plugged in!!!!

That is the only way for me to get rid of those irritating guys.

Pim.

Ok, first, I know they could have gotten my CC # because after the alarm went off I searched for files accesed in the last 5 minutes, the cc was one. As for how do I knw they got in through napstar? I only get scans and attempted hcks from road runner users, but when I went onto napstar I got 10 in a row from different users not on road runner.

Here's a three-page thread from No Wonder (http://mb.nowonder.com/ultimate/Forum2/HTML/008805.html) that addresses this very subject.

hmmmm you set yourself up as a public server in a world that's halfway to that populated by pr0n and wArEz d00ds and then wonder why you're getting scanned?

What is road runner and can anyone else suggest other BBS like this one in quality.

x35,

Road Runner is what Media One's cable service is called. If you have a cable connection, your IP address is static and doesn't change. Since you're "on" 24-hours a day with a cable modem, you're vulnerable to anyone looking to invade your system. That's why a firewall is especially important to folks with a cable hook up instead of a dial-up connection.

Another great board is No Wonder (http://mb.nowonder.com/cgi-bin/ultimate/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number=10&SUBMIT=Go).

That was an interesting thread to say the least. I just changed ZA to not allow Napster to not have server access so I can see what what happens with it.

I don't see any reason to worry though. I have more important things in my life to do than worry about than someone seeing some files on my computer or accessing them.

There are better ways to get mp3s than napster. I do use it too, but only for very short periods of time (have dsl) so I have been lucky so far. I wouldnt leave it open all day or anything, or you are asking for trouble.
