Has anyone had this problem, or know what to do...

I recently got a new CD-RW drive and I am having a slight problem with it... I must ensure that the DMA checkbox is checked in the device manager under the CD-RW driver (settings) tab.

... WELL my problem is this... THERE IS NO DMA BOX TO CHECK. Where did it go? Does it have something to do with the fact that I am using Intel's IDE controller drivers, and not the standard Microsoft drivers?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Rich

I have the D815EPEA mobo and noticed the same thing when using the Intel ATA100 drivers. Had to disable them and revert to dual fifo as had all sorts of problems with them. I believe there were some bugs in the drivers that came with my mobo and Intel have released some newer ones on their website. When using the ATA100 drivers they auto setup DMA as far as I can remember. Hope this helps you.

Hmmm.. I have the latest Intel drivers (just downloaded them from the website).

I have a CD-Writer that is unable to determine if DMA is enabled.. So that leads me to believe that it isn't taken advantage of DMA.

When you used the default IDE controller drivers, were you still able to take advantage of your ATA100 drives?

Any other suggestions?

I'm using Windows IDE drivers which means I'm running at ATA 66 but have to say I don't notice any difference between ATA 100 and 66. The Intel driver gave me all sorts of problems with my burner/cdrom on the secondary IDE channel so just ditched them and all was well again.

Paul.

PS. Tried the latest drivers but still the same problems.
