I recently purchased a Biostar Motherboard (Slot A). I hooked up the processor (AMD Athlon 800 MHz), and installed the RAM and video card, and set up the power to the Motherboard. When I attempt to boot up, the power light comes on, on the Motherboard, there is power going to the CD-ROM and the Hard Drive, because I can feel it spinning up. The system seems to be trying to perform the POST, but after the Hard Drive spins up, the floppy doesn't illuminate. All power plugs are securely fastened. I did notice that the keyboard is not showing any power and the monitor also does not show any power going to it. The monitor power light stays orange, like it was in sleep mode. I am really stumped here. I'm not sure if I should play with any jumper settings or if the CMOS is bad or what. I've moved Motherboards from one case to another, but I've never set one up right out of the box. Please help.

PS - The current system is Win 95, but I also have a new Hard Drive with Win 98 installed, and neither worked. Thanks again.

PPS - The case is from an old Gateway Pentium Pro 200 MHz system. The power is 115V, but the switch in the back switches from 115V to 230V.

I not up on AMD's that much. But from what I have heard. You will need more power supply. I bet that old gateway rig only had a 150 or 200 watt power supply. At the most. I have heard a 300 watt is the smallest one to use on a Athlon. Then it sould be AMD approved. I'm sure some of the AMD followers will fill you in better than I can.

Thanks Philip, I'll read up on the power requirements for the Processor and motherboard.
