Mntsnow 04-26-2000, 10:34 PM My wife does....I can't get her to switch over to RC5 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif She works with a few of her school teacher friends on Seti. Mntsnow wtp 04-26-2000, 11:07 PM what is RC5, and where can i get it. SysOpt 04-26-2000, 11:39 PM http://www.sysopt.com/rc5team.html Ultima 04-27-2000, 12:42 AM Well, I've read somewhere, at least I think, that this is a global thing to crack somekind of code for a contest, is this right??? I like to help, but doesn't it take up a large amount of cpu time, or will it be running on the background??? What would be the minimum specifications to help with rc5/seti??? And what is the diff between the 2??? Pim Axel 04-27-2000, 06:44 AM I've run Seti for several months now - started with client version 1.6 - we are on client version 2.04 now. I've completed almost 340 datasets for Seti - I'm running it on between 5 and 8 computers on a daily basis. It isn't a contest - there is no money involved - it's pure science looking for an intelligent radio signal from space. Only thing is, chances are the signal will be so old that the race it came from is likely extinct by the time we receive it. But we would still learn from the signal. It would be exciting stuff...... Anakhonda 04-27-2000, 07:01 AM I run SETI on my PC's. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one doing it any more... I tried the RC5, but for some reason, it wouldn't let me join the sysopt team so I stopped. Joel Kleppinger 04-27-2000, 11:59 AM I believe Ultima was talking about RC5, not SETI. Keep in mind that the RC5 client only takes those unused cycles in the background and lets foreground apps have all they need or want. Anakhonda, what exactly happened with the problem joining the SysOpt team? If you would post in the Distributed Computing forum here, I'm sure we could help you work through your problem. Unless of course, you just like SETI better. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif SysOpt.com
