Are ECC and Non-Parity DDR SDRAM the same size i.e. do they fit in the same slot.

If a mobo does not support ECC can you still use ECC memory but at the non-parity level?

Or is it that ECC memory must be supported at the ECC level or it is useless?

To my knowledge, all of the ram modules are made the same way. I mean by that, they should all plug into the same socket. I have never seen a DDR module, but have read where they are slightly different than a SDRAM module.

ECC is error checking and is a parity ram module. At one time, boards that required parity ram would not work with non parity, but the same parity module would work in a board that only required non parity sdram. I have recently read a thread where a guy had some left over ecc with registered ram from a server, and it wasn't working in his new board.

I would presume the modules are the same as far as 'pin out' are concerned.

You might find a better answer over at Corsair's Q & A BBS. If you decide to make a post there, be VERY sure to specify that you have some Corsair ram...or, better yet...say you want some ECC Corsair modules, and will it work in your board, make/model...ect. If you do not specify Corsair, they will not address your post.

Lotsa good ram questions asked and answered here...just do a little searching and reading the posts.
