I'm not trying to be a smarta** or trying to be a topic cop. but, it's beging to be a pain in the behind here latly. I can't figure out all of the posting sometime that you all do.

all it dose is push the good and the usefull post to the bottom faster. so, if you could. please do all them in this post. and that way it will stay at the top. and than there won't be alot of the different ones to push the others down!!!!

and than maybe we can rename this to kiddieland time posting or something alone the way of something like this. until they lock it.

Well the way I see it is that General means the non techy stuff, more the lets have a relaxe and a bit of fun, after all Sysopt has most area's covered for techy issues, eg Motherboards, OS, etc, even down to our own place to sell stuff, and when you want a head ache you have Brainstorming http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

this is the area I find my escape after a days work with systems.

WW, I'm all with you on what you are saying. that is the reason I posted this to another topic. I'm not trying to cut anyone out of a laught or two. I just think some of them are not a good post for the not as old as some of us are. and can over look them.

----------------copy of post-----------------

so, really what you need to do is. think about what you are going to post. and ask yourself.

1. am I just doing a post, to get noticed.
2. is there a need for this info. to be posted
3. can I or someone else gain knowledge from it.
4. and sometimes I think it is kinda nice to get away from the regular system stuff awhile.
5. and the most important thing about it is. always remember, what you post. is what you will be remembered for. so choose your topics wisely.

Sorry Gene C.

I love my computer but I guess I love my doggie a little bit more. Hope I didn't cause you too much grief, I will try to stick to the computers topic from now on. I do see you point about driving the important posts to the bottom of the page. Perhaps to someone new like me, general discusion means general discusion. Anyway no hard feelings I hope http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif.

BTW... cute dogies to do a leg hick on some of the posters? You lost me there, is that something that a spell checker may have made a little clearer?

Trying to do the right thing here,

no offence taken. and I wasen't talking about the pet pictures or even some of the others. for I have posted somw wild things to. but, I tried to think before I did it.

I was trying to get the doggies to do a leg hike on some of the bad ones that aren't even close to being a post.

and yes, if I keep useing my way with words. there will be a spell checker for sure. he he

Maybe we need a new forum for miscellaneous nun computer stuff? If people don't want to deal with all these 'Off Topic' they could just avoid that forum...

Nah, Sysopt already said that it's easier for him to blow away the occasional OT post than to manage a whole new forum.

I kind of like Gene C's idea here. I think it would be good to have one *GENERIC OFF TOPIC* thread and if you need help microwaving noodles, you can ask that here.

(As long as it doesn't deteriorate into another "hmmmm" )

thanks for the reply. for I myself think that everyone should have the right to do a useless post every now and than too. and this way you can do it and get it off your chest. and not feel like you are being denied the right to express your thoughts on something.

and I'm sure the ones running the board. will step in and say. if this is going to go into the wrong direction. we will lock it and all like it from now on. so try and use your head. before you do a real off topic post.

Answers:
1. who cares
2. how discretionary is that
3. if one person gains anything and it doesn't have to be knowledge it can be a smile....then post away
4. then what's your point
5. opinions are like a$$holes....everyone will form different opinions of each other regardless

my 2 cents http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

5. opinions are like a$$holes....everyone will form different opinions of each other regardlessHmm...I'm missing the analogy somewhere. Everyone's a$$hole takes different a form? (shape???)(ewwwww)

Someone said earlier, read a few posts to get a feel for what's appropriate, and take note of what's not (the locked threads). Then post.

WW - you crack me up - hop on a BBS to escape from systems....... work must REALLY be getting to you.....

I see the general area in much the same way, however - I use it mostly for looking for stuff others might have a handle on which may or may not be computer related.

I also love to read the opinions others have on some of the topics posted here. I hate the typical "what's your sign" **** on other boards and you don't see as much of that here because this community just doesn't care about much of anything except what people know about computers. Plus I enjoy helping people .....

If we all turn into the post police, a lot of people will be turned away from this site.
A least in my case, what atracted me to this, aside from everybody's willigness to help, was the vast array of opinions and topics, just like a small cozy neiborghood.
I just scan all topics, read the ones I'm interested on and ignore the others. If I need something computer specific, I go to the appropiate place, ie Tecnical Suport, Motherboards, etc.
I think that the Moderators are doing a great job keeping this site in check and focused, so the last thing that we need is for everybody to turn into the "Post Police".
But that is just my opinion; what do I know. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
ps, I REALY need that spellchecker.

see, it's already working. it's even bringing out the body parts in us all. he he

to show ourselves and others members what we really are. and you are right. I'm the biggest ""opnion"" I know. and proud of it. some people even say I'm all ""opnion""

I love it when people really know me. he he

I totally agree with what Yaroa stated above, and 2nd the great job done on moderating this site.
To add to the rest of this rederick pertaining to "the good posts being pushed down" If it's a good & useful post, it'll work it's way back topside. If it's worthless & uninteresting, it'll continue it's downslide...Right?? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

No harm done? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Also my 2-cents.

Axel there is a big differance between haveing to repair a system with some 6'9" heavy breathing down your neck because he wants his system up and running yesterday,

and being able to surf where you want and have a Joke and converse with Friends and Buddies,

( and after being a member on this site for over a year,)
and with all the support the Sysopt members have shown me and mine during some real difficult times, not to call them friends or buddies would be an insult to them, http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Beside have'nt you heard of a Busmans Holiday http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Hear hear WW!

The great part of Sysopt is there's this area to relax and socialize. Because of our hard-working mods, it's not a place where you have to worry about some punk or drunk busting in... or at least, after a little time to learn the house rules, our punks are helpful and our drunks are happy. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Even the hmmmm thread had its own charm and was shut down only because it got so long.

However, I've decided that for every 1-2 OT posts that I make, I'll go to the Tech section and see if there's something that I can learn or help with there... wouldn't be right to leave some tech help questions hanging while we stand around complaining about the times. Anybody else with me on this?

Nathan

I'm with you on the GeneC, jeana and others. With the limited time I have, I sometimes don't read the other stuff because I can't read the threads that I might be able to throw in my 2 bits.

Kind of makes you wonder about the Ultimate member status doesn't it? Many of those here who have it, well deserve it because of the time they spent here and knowledge they share with others.

Well, the tech support-o/c-OS-networking forums are all mostly out of my league. That's why I hang out here, to tackle the occasional newbie question.
