I have a Soundblaster AWE 64 Card. Recently I changed my Battery on the motherboard. Since that time I get a message when I reboot that WIndows has found a device and wants to install the drivers for this device (CMI8330 Audio Device).

I have uninstalled the Soundblaster software and reinstalled it, but this problem does not want to go away.

This device (CMI8330 appears on the hardware profile when I reboot, and it also appears on the system hardware devices, and even when i try to delete these, Windows still asks me to install this device driver.

What gives???

Thanks for your help!

Seems you have that C-Media 8330 audio chip on your mainboard, and you missed disabling it in BIOS setup after you changed batteries.

Revisit BIOS setup, find the "onboard sound" option, set to "disabled", and gone it will be.

Well I'll be dammed! IT WORKED!

Thanks a bunch. I really appreciate this.

So in the future what is the best way to replace my battery and retain all the old values?

Thanks Again

Well, since the battery is there to retain the values, your only choice is to write the settings down once you figured out your personal best ones. Trying to remember them after they're gone usually has the result you've just come to know.
