I recently put together a machine with a SOYO SY-K7VTA MOBO, 1Gig Athlon, 384 Meg RAM and running Windows 98.
The only problem I have run into is when shutting down it appears that the MOBO switches off before Windows is finished doing what it is doing. Then on start-up the improper shut-down message appears and runs Scan Disc on my drives. This does not happen all of the time but frequently. I have not found any settings in the CMOS or BIOS that could affect this. Any ideas?
Thanks:

Try this: Run Msconfig, click Advanced, on the General tab and check Disable Fast Shutdown. This fixes it most of the time.

Thanks for the suggestion! I will give that a try. It often seems that we look too deep for solutions that are right on the surface.
Thanks again.

I Gave that a try and all was well until the next shut-down.
Now it goes to black screen with a curser in the top lefty corner and the MOBO emitts a steady beep and is locked up.
So I'm back to sqaure one now.
