I'm going to buy a motherboard for a PIII 800
probably FCPGA

i was going to get an ABIT SA6 but then i realsised i had an ISA modem and didnt want to buy a new one (SA6 has no ISA slots)

so i see the ABIT VH6T with has one ISA slot -ideal, but i'm a bit confused what the differnce is between VIA and INTEL chipsets.. which is better and in what situations? also, has anyone had any success in overclocking a PIII800E on this board to like, 1064mhz ?

your help much appreciated..

There used to be a big performance gap between VIA and Intel chipsets. Nowadays, the gap is negligible. VIA chipsets have more features and are cheapter. I wound recommend the abit VH6-II because I have read nice review on this board.

I have the Abit SH6 with i815e chipset. It works OK but is a bit quirky about shutdown/restart and IDE device recognition. Not enough so to make me dump it ... yet.

Also, I've just received the CPUBoost utility for the Realtek clock generator - i815e combo, and it works just fine. My PIII-850/100 now goes a little faster than the available setting on my former MSI with the BX chipset.
