I am having a new pc built and want to know which Mb is the most trouble free, the Abit kt7a Raid or the Asus A7v133. I know that both are top of the line and have read the reviews, I just can't decide. Maybe I should flip a coin.I will be running a 900 thunderbird. Thanks, fangoria

I'm partial to the Abit KT7A-RAID. I have the KT7-RAID and a 900 T-bird and I love it!
The nice thing about the Abit RAID boards is that they have 4 dual channel ide connections (8 ide devices possible!). This allows me to put my two WD 30Gb ATA100 drives on the RAID controller (RAID 0), and the DVD and CDRW drives each have their own ide channel, which makes burn on the fly real easy.
The Abit board can also support future T-birds over 1.5Ghz just by changing a few bios settings. NO JUMPERS!!
Here's my system...
Abit KT7-RAID
900Mhz T-bird (Super Orb HSF)
512Mb Micron PC133 SDRAM
2 30Gb Western Digital ATA100 (in RAID 0)
Soundblaster PCI Audio
ATI Radeon LE (clocked and tweaked, Blue Orb fan)
Hitachi 8x DVDROM
Acer CDRW4432A (looking to upgrade to TDK VeloCD)
Linksys LNE10/100 NIC
Pinnacle Studio PCTV
Antec KS282+ case with PP303 300W PS (with 2 Cooler Master 8cm fans & Cooler Master Slot fan)
No internal modem, but there is an external dialup modem connected to my DI-707 firewall/router to back up my cable connection.
Including the CPU cooler and FSB cooler, there are 7 fans in the case to keep everything cool (it sounds like a Cesna, but I don't mind a little noise to keep things chilly).

The Asus A7V133 can also run RAID0, and has 4 connectors.
I cant tell you which board is definitively better, since Ive never worked with a A7V133, but the greatest benifit will come with the Abit KT7A since more users at this forum use it and can help you troubleshoot your problems.
The features are very similar, with the largest difference being the KT7A offers an ISA slot.
Ive worked with a KT7-RAID, a KT7A-RAID and a A7V. A7V wasnt too high on my list because of the nonjumperless clocking, but that issue's been settled with the A7V133.

I also have a Abit KT7 RAID and its probably the best mobo ive had so far is rock stable (i need it to be when rendering graphics) so i can really recomend it. The other board you mentiond i have little exsperience of but i will say that it does seem to be equaly as good. I surggest you got for the Abit as it seems a lot of people have had a good exsperience with them.

Go ahead - flip a coin. They're both great boards. They both have similar specs, similar features, similar performance, similar quality. Its kind of like asking Ford or Chevy?? Budweiser or Miller??

Although I don't have experience with either one, I would choose ASUS for the reason that ASUS A7V133 has the promise RAID chip, while ABIT has high-point chip. I have a Soyo 6BA-IV which has an integrated high-point chip and I have had compability issue with it. I never heard of compability issue with Promise chip.
