hi,

i've got a pcchips m571 mobo with a pentium 200MMX 64mb edo. been running this for 3 years now and recently had a system crash and did a full reformat/reinstall (many times)

got lots of useful info from this forum - bios update, sis drivers, m571 manual, etc - thanks.

i now want to give my system a bit of a revamp, just bought a voodoo2 and now looking at a new cpu (if possible).

previous posting had a link to ( www.romulus2.com/articles/guides/newlife/newlife.htm) (http://www.romulus2.com/articles/guides/newlife/newlife.htm)) says that this cpu remaps the 2.0 multiplier to 6.0. sounds good but my lowest core voltage is 2.5V and the site says it may be ok at this level with "good" cooling.

is there anybody out there running this mbo/cpu combo that can give me some advice on what "good" cooling means?
would i be better to look for a new mobo (v3.2a or 7.0)?

another posting mentioned that it is possible to replace the core voltage jumpers with resistors to achieve settings not possible with the jumpers alone, anybody got any advice on whether i could do this to get down to 2.2v, would this cause any other problems ?

any and all advice greatly appreciated (except "throw away that dinosaur and invest in something real" - maybe in 12-18 months time)

thanks, bill

Here is some more info:
M571 Tech Support Page (http://perso.libertysurf.co.uk/m571/index.html)

also you might want to ask your question here:
The PCChips Lottery BBS - M5xx - Pentium Boards (http://www.stud.fernuni-hagen.de/q3998142-bin/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=M5xx+-+Pentium+Boards&number=2&DaysPrune=&LastLogin=)

the K6-2 400 will draw current close to the limit of what the voltage regulators can supply. the regulators will need cooling (heatsinks)
also you will want a bios tweeking program to take advantage of the K6's features.

thanks for the reply skeegin.

knew of the m571 homepage (downloaded my readable manual from there) but the PCChips lottery BBS link is great, looks like i might be able to get some more info there.
