Hey everyone,
a friend of mine says that asus is having some major problems with their motherboards and that iwill is a great brand. I took a quick look at the website and it says it's a scsi board. I have a scsi card, and harddrive, the boards are definitely cheaper. is this a good buy?

Thanks
p.s. the website i am looking at is newegg.com

kdwc, the Iwill KK266 (non Raid) seems to be a great board. The Raid version is the KK266-R. It also appears to be a good board, but only if you really need raid...and are somewhat experienced in building and have the patience of Job!!. (lol). It will be my next upgrade. All of the KT133a chipset boards are having small problems with some cards, like the SB Live! sound. They should have a fix for that shortly however. Setup sequence is important, with certain drivers, ect. The technology is still fairly new, and some glitches are to be expected. Tech support and customer service is very important at any time, especially when new systems are just hitting the streets. Iwill seems to have reasonable tech support. I have been reading several forums now sence January, and I do believe the Iwill mainboard is as a good a choice as any.

Go to the following forum where they have dedicated forums for each AMD motherboard. Read there a little bit, and I believe you will answer just about all of your questions.

I had the KA-266R raid board for the T-bird. I had no problems with it. I sent it back though because I don't need RAID support. Now I run the KA-266. It seems to be a solid, stable board. The only thing I don't like is the fact that I can't figure out how to enable AGP fast writes. If you do decide on a DDR board, make sure you get good DDR ram. PC1600 isn't much better then good PC133. The better your ram the better your memory access will be. By the way, are you going to use and Intel or Amd processor?

kdwc:

After much research and agonizing, I bought an Iwill KK266 mobo for my 1.2 GHz Thunderbird. I'm very pleased with it. I'm also still learning about it as I continue to tweak away at my system. I was finally convinced by a review that I read a few weeks ago at www.anandtech.com (http://www.anandtech.com) (I believe that's the link).

Good luck.

Hey Brangwen,
I checked out the link, I'm not going with ddr though. I bought most of my components almost a year ago-everything except the chip and motherboard. I have a scsi card, pc133 sdram-muskin, its cheap now so I will probably buy 128 more, scsi harddrive 18 gig 7200 rpm and a 32mb video card-geforce 256. I think I want the 1ghz athlon, I heard a price drop was coming in may. So I am kinda stuck with what I've already bought. I am also looking at the swiftech fan-saw that on toms hardware, and the asus a7v133. I just wanted to know if iwill was a good alternative. It seems that it is. Thanks for the advice, I will probably be back when it comes time for me to get a new monitor.
