i didn't know where to post this since i'm kinda new, sorry. i recently got my hands on an old HP pavillion with the above mentioned motherboard(SiS 5598). it's got a built in graphics chip, which sucks, so i'm trying to install a graphics card. i found some documentation telling me to remove the drivers for the built-in graphics chip, shut down the machine, then plug in the video card, and then the monitor to the card and start-up. the computer should recognize the new card, but when i start up the screen is black, but it sounds like it's booting up. also if i leave the card in and plug the monitor back into the built-in port i still can't see anything. only when the card is removed can i see anything on the built-in graphics chip. i know they're conflicting, but how can i fix this? any help will be much appreciated. thanks.

Ye olde 5598 chipset neither allows disabling its VGA in software, nor can it coexist with another VGA for multi-display operation.

Meaning you need to find out whether there is an "integrated VGA disable" jumper or switch on your mainboard, and then use that.

thank you peter for your help. there are in fact jumpers on the mobo ,and i did set it to disable the VGA but when i put the video card in and plug the monitor to it i still get a blank screen. i still have to check whether or not i uninstalled the drivers for the built-in graphics chip or not. thanks again and if you have any other suggestions...please post.
