Sounds like the DOJ is seeking a breakup. (http://cnnfn.com/2000/04/24/companies/microsoft/) The 2 halves they're looking to create are reported to be
OS
Applications (office 'n stuff)
I'm thinking, no way. The worst they'll do is prob just some form of regulation. I don't see how this fixes the browser issue. Or did they just use the browser as a wedge to legally declare MS a monopoly so they could do their handiwork? [stuff]...caused Microsoft's stock to plunge 12-3/4 to 66-3/16 in late afternoon trading, slicing $66 billion from the company's market value within hours.I lost $20 bill once....

in my own opinion. if they do have them to break up. well, than we will have two companys to grow large. instead of just one. and if you will read in this news post.

""None of the plans would require Microsoft to separate its Web browser from Windows""

wasen't that what all the crying was about in the first place!!!!

and as far as the stock going down. that won't last for long. so now is the time to buy into uncle bill's nest eggs.

I could not believe that the pros who do the big-time investing panicked .

Even if MS is broken up, it will be years down the road.

What exactly would prohibit these two companies from officially or unofficially choosing each other as "strategic partners" and sharing exclusive information about the products and strategies?

there still going to be married to each other. just with a seperation. they will be able to grow bigger on there own" have children". and than when they get big again.

the gov. will step in and do another seperation."take away the kids" and than the whole family will be one big tax write off for each other.

remember, there is power in numbers. and the more you split up. the more there is.

I personaly think. the gov. should stay out of it. and let the people of the u.s. decide what to do. hell, put it on a balot.

and as you will see in most all the news. the gov. forgot all about netscape. and if they want to make a change. than have them to issue two copies of windows. one with explorer and one without.

I mean what did it prove with att. they did make it an open market to others. but, hasen't your att bill had a few price hikes. I know mine has. and what's going to stop uncle bill. from doing the same. are you going to pay the price.

or are you just going to throw all your windows out the window.

It could very well be the best thing that has happened to Mr. Softie, they will do ok

It could very well be a good time to buy their stock!

M$ might just make an "OS" side that involves one guy sitting at a desk total, and then sell the OSs as Applications.

This Microsoft breakup B.S. is one of the dumbest things the US government has ever come up with. How exactly has Microsoft created a monopoly by integrating IE into Windows? I mean, I'm using Netscape to type this up, and I haven't had any problems yet.
